NHK ni Youkoso! - 23
Whoaa this was a super pumped episode so lotsa summary and screenshots!
So anyway we start out at Sato and Misaki’s usual meeting and she is quizzing him on “famous quotes” said by people. He has to guess who said it and in the end Misaki concludes that “before everyone dies, they go back to their hometown don’t they.” Sato thinks nothing of this and she tells him that his final exam will be tomorrow, in which if he passes, he will graduate her course. He asks why and she says because she is going away to a far and distant town.
The next day the test appears to be like a date. They go to the movies, a restaurant etc. When they come back she congradulates Sato on graduating her course and gives me a “graduation certificate” to sign. When he reads it though, it basically goes down the list saying that he will be with Misaki for the rest of his life. He says he can’t sign it and she says “Why not? You’ve fallen for me haven’t you? I’m all you’ve got, and without me you’ll be lonely.” He yells out that he isn’t lonely and runs off. Behind him Misaki yells that she’s lonely without him and calls him a liar.
Sato runs back to his room and starts seeing visions of Yamazaki, Hitomi-senpai and the former Iinchou. They all say that he should just admit that he’s a worthless human being and give in to Misaki. A few days later he gets a phone call from his mom saying his dad has been permanently hospitalized and she will no longer send him money. Also, Yamazaki’s promised food he says he can no longer send. Days go by and Sato is starving and seeing imagery of when Misaki brought him food. One day he can’t stand it, he gets up and out of the house and gets a job.
Eventually he shaves himself and doesn’t look like a starving bum. His job is being a traffic controller and things seem to be going well. Misaki sees him doing this and says to herself “Congradulations, you’ve finally escaped hikkikomorism.” One day when Sato is walking home he sees an ambulance drive by him and up to Misaki’s house. He gets worried and runs up there, only to see them carrying Misaki into the ambulance on a stretcher.
The next day he walks over to Misaki’s house to see what’s going on with her and runs into her caretaker. He’s about to walk away but the man says “Are you Sato-kun?” They both drive to the hospital where Misaki is and on the way he tells Sato how whenever she talked about him, she was always happy. He also tells her how they are not her real parents and that her real mom comitted suicide when Misaki was young. He also says this was because her step-dad abused her mom and when her mom died, he abused her. Sato then remembered the incident where he was about to hit her and she cowered in fear.
When they get to the hospital and go to her room, she’s missing. They find a note that says “Thank you for keeping me these 3 days, goodbye.” Sato is panicked and then he recalls her saying “Everyone goes back to their hometown before they die don’t they.” He looks at the train book she left to see where she went and quickly runs to get money out of an ATM and hop on the train to go after her. The end of the episode shows a screenshot of the cliff from where Misaki’s mom jumped off. Whoa this episod was so jam packed that the animation went into the credits!
Some concluding notes: When Misaki made that “certificate” about being with Sato, I think it was like her “cry for help” in order not to die. The other thing is, I believe Misaki overdosed on something hence why the ambulance. They said that they found her “passed out” on the bathroom floor.
Upcoming Attractions: It’s Sato’s turn to save Misaki, in the grande finale of NHK ni Youkoso!

I can’t help but smile pensively. This is a show worthy indeed of its praise. I hope he can manage to save her, and I believe he will. Wonderful summary, Hinano. I look forward to the final episode …
WOW kinda different from the manga, but interesting nonetheless. Have to say I dropped it halfway though, so keep the episode summaries going!
I’m trying to comment on IE now! Well anyways I dropped this show so keep the summaries complete! Maybe I’ll marathon it one day XD.
Commentin on FF doesn’t seem to work.
Yea me too!! This totally changed my mind on whether or not im gonna delete the show in the end
Traffic control?! Woohoo! It’s great to see Sato getting over his hikkikomorism. I’m not really surprised about Misaki, I’ve always thought that Sato was some sort of a way out of whatever hole she was in.
Oh, and congrats on joining 9rules.
This is a pleasant surprise. I really look forward to the ending, so much that my fingers feel tingly. =D
Hmmm… I like where this is going. I think that the next episode will feature Misaki in her home time reminiscing about her mothers death and her fathers abusive behaviour. I predict that the next episode will go as follows:
1) Misaki heads back to her home town via train.
She meanwhile is heading towards the cliff.
2) Sato chases her but on the next train.
3) Possibly if Yamazaki lives near by then he may be involved (possibly with scenes showing his current life).
4) Misaki arrives and reminisces about her past (with lots of detailed scenes).
5) Meanwhile Sato searches frantically for her.
6) Either he gets the info on where she lives or is told by someone (or finds out somehow).
7) He chases her there but misses her.
9) Sato remembers something or deducts something in relation to the cliff and heads over there.
10) She and Sato have an amazing conversation (which is going to be the part people discuss in detail later).
11) Sato admits to loving her.
12) She is convinced that she doesn’t need to die.
13) They walk off into the sunset.
14) Possible later life scenes (I really hope so!)
15) Possible Yamazaki/other Hikokimori/Misaki/suicide girl/Sato/Sato’s mum-dad scenes.
On the other hand they could jump together or Sato might not arrive in time. She might admit it’s part of her plan and he gets a real graduation certificate or something unknown might happen. Either way I’m excited!
Things I like to see:
1) Wedding scenes (the epilogue).
2) Yamazaki happy scenes.
3) Sato and Misaki happy and living good lives.
4) Everyone happy scenes.
5) Lots of details!!!
Things I don’t want to see:
1) A bad ending.
2) Suicide.
3) Unhappy ending.
4) Short ending without extra detail.
5) The ending going into the trailers but not capping it off!
6) Anything involving a depressing ending.
Thanks badger!
It’s like that other hikki guy, when they wanted food, they went out and got a job
I’m hoping for Sato x Misaki ANYTHING GOOD AND ROMANTIC lol
I want a happy ending. These people deserve a little bit of heaven in their lives …
三日とろろ
おいしゅうございました。
I think Misaki tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists. There was a quick shot of her wrist bandaged up when she was riding the train near the end. I think she was also found in the bath, which could go along with that.
Great summaries and commentary. Thanks!
ya, I was just gonna say that as well… I am glad I wasn’t the only one to notice that little thing.
