I thought the Toei version had Makoto call Akiko "mother" just before Yuuichi took her to the hill...

Hrmm. My post disappeared.

Oh well, the actual part where she disappeared wasn't as painful as the buildup to it. Especially the parts where she struggles to say something to Yuuichi. The heavy implications of "if these things happen, she's going to..." was just too painful for me to ignore. I suppose the moment(s) which hit me the hardest was when Makoto meets Amano and barely manages to squeak out her own as well as Yuuichi's name. The part where she told Yuuichi that she wanted to marry him was also a very hard thing to bear.

I am trying very hard not to re-enact the scene in my head. So far I've managed to prevent myself from contemplating too much. phew.

Somehow it just felt quite anti-climatic to me. I expected Makoto's death to be more...dramatic, but in the end she just vanished without a trace after so much build up.

I agree with Retsgrip that the part, where Makoto was struggling to say out Yuuichi's name, was much more touching.

But overall, Kyoani pulled off the degeneration till the final moments of Makoto really well. Yuuichi seemed to overcome Makoto's death pretty quickly though.

I chose a really bad time to watch episode 9 and 10, got hit really bad and the only thing that's keeping me sane is that my parents are at home so I have to control myself. Geez...

I don't know whether to say Air was worse or this arc was worse but both made me feel totally horrible. I guess it's time to take a break.

The grassy hill reverting back to a snowy hill when Makoto disappeared was a very nice touch. It was bothering me that there was a hill with no snow in bleak winter.

I don't really post recaps more like comparisons of the game/TOEI animation. I think randomC or memento's sites might be better if you want actual episodic summaries

Sorry, I'm pwning your comments section but I forgot to comment to Rupert. I think that the spring on the hill is part of the Makoto miracle. She liked spring the most and so when she miricalized(new word), I guess it became spring on the hill. Then naturally the hill ceased to be in perpetual spring once she's gone. I don't really know though since I'm not really that focused or anything.
