Happiness! - 10

Wow now if every episode of the show was as good as this one, this actually might be worth burning on your DVDrom! (But it’s not so I’ll have to scrap it for AMV footage.) The episode title was “The past” in which they took pretty much everyone’s childhood and showed what happened. To summarize it: everyone’s moms did all the work and now their kids gotta deal with it.

Anyway Sumomo’s soul keeps floating out of her body due to Yuuma’s magic. He’s so depressed he runs out and sits on a bench in the pouring rain. Jun and Hachi find him and take him over to Jun’s house. (I bet in the eroge this is where the famous “Futsu no onna no ko” scene comes from.) Hachi made sure to buy him some “man” clothes cause I guess Jun doesn’t have any. Oh and we also get a gratuitous Yuuma shower scene! ;) Anyway Hachi tells Jun the same story that Minami-sensei is telling everyone over at Sumomo’s room.

So the big twist is: Minami-sensei is Yuuma’s real mom. Because he was born with uncontrollable magic powers, (or ones controlled by his heart rather than his mind), he was forced to live with a foster mom, Otoha instead. Haruhi also admitted that the first incident with his magic wasn’t because he was causing trouble but because he was trying to save her. We also see a backstory from the Shikimori bro/sis who serve Ibuki.

Their story is that their dad tried to revive their mom in the Shikimori forest thing but instead he summoned a demon. Yuuma’s (real) mom, that green blob girl’s real mom, and Ibuki’s sister all joined in the battle. Ibuki’s sister ended up giving her life (with a gratuitous hentai tentacle nudity scene) in order to stop the demon which is why that bro/sis owe it to Ibuki that their father (and everyone else) was saved. Oh parental grudges.

Personally I enjoyed the episode a lot. Only a few spots of funky animation but the part where Hachi carries Jun away from the bathroom cracked me up. (Especially when he threw his girly panties onto Hachi’s head :lol:) If only the rest of the show was as good as this (I mean wtf happened in episodes 4-7 really?)

    Geez, another case of children having to pay for their parents’ mistakes. I’ve seen that story quite often, and it almost always appalled me.

    So how does Haruhi fit into the mess Ibuki is trying to pull? Is it like Ibuki is trying to finish what the bro/sis’ dad attempted, but the whole setup was sealed/locked by Haruhi’s mom so Ibuki couldn’t do it without Haruhi?

    Actually the Haruhi thing is the one thing that they didn’t highlight one. I’m assuming that’s something they’ll go into next week.

    My japanese is extremely poor so I often read your reviews before or after a show to help with my comprehension of what transpired.
    Your a big help and thank you.

    I’ve just got a couple of quick questions though;

    -Does Yuuma know that Minami-sensei is his real mother?
    -Why did a magician Mom give up her kid to a woman with no magical power, wouldn’t a magician be better capable of controlling a magical child than on with no magical capabilities?
    -Is it a coincidence that she’s a teacher at Yuuma’s school, or is she there to guard against his uncontrollable magic powers?

    I just couldn’t make it out when watching the raw.

    1) I would think he would know his real mother unless between the time when he got separated and now he like blocked it from his memory or something.

    2) I thought that was kinda dumb too. I didn’t understand the reasoning behind why you would do that. They didn’t really explain why.

    3) I don’t recall hearing on why Minami sensei is a teacher at the school. My assumption is she wanted to be close to Yuuma to watch over him.

    1) I think he knows, because he keeps on swearing never to use magic, and he wouldn’t swear that unless he had the memory of the park incident. Also he had told Hachi about why he transferred in.
    2) I think they stuck him with an unmagical mom because the spell he used in the park was copied from minami-sensei’s spell use in the garden, and they don’t want similar copycat things happening again

    Thanks #2 is a better explanation I completely forgot that he mimicked her spells while she was in the garden.

    Jun had blue panties in that one episode..:lol:
