Kanon - 06 - Taiyaki Chronicles

Published by Hinano at 9:34 pm under Kanon

Uguu's of doom
A very Ayu-centric episode. I liked it a lot actually! The only thing that I’d like to point out is that the movie date with Ayu was in episode 11 of the TOEI version which is why I was like “Whoa already!?” when they showed it in episode 6. Based on the way things are going, I’m going to assume they’re gonna take the Makoto route for the next few episodes. I’ve also been noticing how they’ve been constantly changing everyone’s wardrobes. Makoto’s always wearing different clothes and the “flashback” of Ayu and Yuiichi, Ayu is actually wearing something over her pink sweater. Actually I think KyoAni is promoting “wear warm clothing!” in the winter or something XD.

So last weekend I was at the Korean store and I figured since my taiyaki was running out I’d buy another bag. However whilst picking up the korean version I found gold! And by that I mean, I found a bag with Japanese “Taiyaki” written on it. I quickly put the Korean one back and grabbed the Japanese one. That was a smart move because the Japanese ones are SO MUCH BETTER! Wow like when you eat these things, you can probably understand why Ayu likes them so much.

As you can see from the image here are the comparison shots between the Korean and Japanese taiyaki. The Korean one is on the left and Japanese on the right. The actual crust of the Japanese one is much thicker and less greasy than the Korean one. Also the filling is much better “stirred” as a paste in the Japanese one, while in the korean one you can still see the beans as a whole, and I’ve had a few fall out as I was eating it. Moral of the story? Don’t buy cheap imitations of products made from another country! (And those imitations weren’t even that cheap either.)

Coming next week…that Siamese cat finally comes around and Makoto runs away with it to the place where Yuuichi screws her in the game (oops spoiler!)

lol @ “wear warm clothing”. If that’s a promotion campaign, KyoAni isn’t doing so well. Ayu is wearing shorts that remind me of Daisy Dukes. Good thing she’s goth that sweater and overcoat. I was in Japantown last weekend and walked by a grocery store and taiyaki didn’t even cross my mind. AuuuUguu

That Korean taiyaki looks disgusting. The Japanese taiyaki looks good, though. I should get some.

Piro was in episode 1 with every other character, I believe he was stealing taiyaki. ^^; Poor hungry cat.

The korean taiyaki looks somehow frozen, while the japense one looks like it crashed into a wall.

Kyo did a great job until now, the TOEI version was not as much fun as this one.

I was watching ep. 6 (again, the subbed ver.) and at the first 30 seconds of the it (or maybe less than that), she said “But I can still remember his face” is it suppose to be she can’t remember his face (??).

I have eaten both of the pictured and they still can’t beat the one I ate from a street vendor near my home in Seoul, Korea. That street vendor also offered a 10 cents alternative: Taiyaki without any fillings ( just the bread ). It actually sold better for it was good and cheap.

Anne> This is why I hate fansubs, theyre always wrong o_o. Ayu had said “I still can’t remember his crying face.”

wontaek> Taiyaki without fillings sounds awesome like you could add your own stuff to it. I was thinking of experimenting but I’d need to find a place where I can get a mold!

we just ordered one from ekitron.com. We found an identical model on amazon.com as well, but unless you have a coupon or special offer, it is slightly more expensive there.
The street vendor did sell something to dip the cheap taiyaki without any filling. It costed 5 cents, and choices were limited; no fruit jam.

Ouch $27!! Wah…buying frozen ones is cheaper!

We didn’t have a choice as my son is allergic to milk, egg, and peanuts, thus we are unable to give the frozen ones to him. In the long run, buying the mold and making them yourselves would be cheaper and most things are tastier if you cook them yourselves; i.e., homemade pancakes and bread almost always taste better than frozen ones, unless you make a really big mistake.
