Sumomomo Momomo - 06
OH boy this one had me
cracking up too. I had expected it to be one thing, but like 5 min later I was rolling on the floor because it turned out to be completely another. Anyway there’s a new tough guy in town. He has huge claws and beats up lotsa high school kids! He’s out to kill Inuzuka Koushi (as usual) and is disappointed to find out Koushi is weak and hides behind a girl (Sanae in this case.) As he leaves the library (after destroying a table) he runs into his child hood friend Momoko..who he apparently made a promise with.
So it turns out they made a promise and wrote it on a soccer ball…however the promise (to get married) was never finished. The word marriage (Kekkon) was only written as “Kekk”. Due to this, Momoko has no idea what she promised nor does she really remember who he is. He is upset, but he rolls around and talks to his ball (who he’s named Becky lol) and “She” tells him to try again.
So….he runs into what looks like Koushi about to have his way with Momoko near the shoe lockers. He’s so angry that Koushi doesn’t care for Momoko at all, that he challenges him to a manly duel! Koushi bitches that them fighting is like a hamburger eating contest between a beefcake guy and a skinny businessman. They both agree that a fair fight would be a game of soccer. However, Koushi doesn’t realize this guy’s shoot is so powerful it rips through the net and breaks a hole in the wall.
He almost gives up and begs for mercy until Momoko stops him. She begs him to not give up. He then uses his brains and figures out the guy is actually like a cat. He has that “tiger” power thing but he acs like a house cat by playing with cat toys, eating cat treats and being afraid of water. Koushi uses this to his advantage and defeats him. Oh and there were complimentary Iroha in a cheerleading outfit scenes lol. At the end, Koushi demands to know what the deal is with the 12 animal war and why everyone is after him. (Fruits Basket anyone?)
Upcoming Attractions: Momoko’s childhood past.

12 Animal War? Oh boy, that’s a whole lot of warriors for Koushi to deal with (assuming they’re all after him).
So now we already have the Dragon (Momoko), Snake (Iroha), Horse (Sanae), and Tiger (Blonde Claw Guy). Thus upcoming (that is if all of them will show up) will be the Rat, Ox, Rabbit, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig (and I guess not necessarily in that order either). I wonder what kind of people these will be like?
It almost feels like a more humorous version of Fruits Basket
I dont think Sanae is part of one of the zodiac clans, she said she is a Tengu warrior even if that outfit is more at home at S&M and ponyplay.
12支

ひでぽん>じつわ私も「フルツーバスケット」と思った。
Koushi ‘have’ to be in one of the clans … why else would everyone be up for killing him … my bet is that he is Dog (Inu as in Inuzuka)
It’s already been established that Koushi is in the dog clan. His father’s technique, which we’ve seen a couple times now, involves a giant dog, much like Momoko’s and Iroha’s techniques involve their respective animals.
As for the names, it appears all the major players we’ve run across so far have their corresponding zodiac animal in their family name (in Iroha’s case it’s the actual zodiac sign, as seen in ひでぽん’s post).
(It’s amazing what you can do with the only the most rudimentary of understandings of kanji and a good translation website)
Haven’t seen Tiger Guy’s name in kanji yet, but I’ll bet it has a kanji that corresponds in some way to tiger in it somewhere.
My thoughts on Sanae are this: (Now, I have no knowledge of this show or manga, so if this turns out to be a spoiler, I apologize. It’s just too gloriously stereotypical not to happen.)
I think that either her house isn’t a very strong one or she isn’t a very strong member of the house, as evidenced by the so-far lack of a CGI horse anywhere near her or her alter-ego, Uma Kamen (even in the OP). All the other four houses encountered so far have had members who have produced an (intentionally cheesy, which I love) CGI animal avatar, either in their techniques (Momoko, Iroha, Koushi’s dad) or in their, for lack of a better term, “inner spirit” (Tiger Guy). Somewhere down the line, I’m guessing she’s going to have a moment involving either danger to Koushi or a challenge from a more powerful family member (probably both) in which we’ll see her “release the beast,” so to speak.
quigo> I noticed the kanji names too
I coulda sworn that the tiger guy had like “tora” in his last name I don’t remember.
I haven’t read the manga (yet) so whether or not its a spoiler I don’t know but even if it that happens, the anime is just too awesome that cliches don’t bother me
