Taiyou no Uta - 10 (Finale)

Published by Hinano at 4:56 pm under Taiyou no Uta, ■Drama/Live Action■

I…I just died in your arms tonight! Ok I know that was a bad joke but seriously I’m disappointed at the corn and cheese of this drama’s ending. Like ok we all knew she was gonna die but it was so CHEESY. Hell I woulda rather have had her miraculously live, or like die at a “later time” instead of like “INSTA DEATH” that this episode portrayed. Oh yes and for those who don’t know this is the 2nd time this actress dies in a drama. ^^; They just LOVE to have her die! Ok so anyway the plot is her disease is so bad that if she doesn’t get surgery she will die. And she chooses to die but “accomplish her dream”.

Asami is having her first concert and she asks Kudou to ask if Moon Child can perform at the end of it. Kudou agrees and invites Moon Child, without knowing about the surgery or die thing. Kaoru says she’d rather die and accomplish her dream, then live on and not. Oh by the way the surgery catch is that if she gets it, she can’t sing anymore. (Who saw that one coming?) Of course she chooses to not have the surgery, and totally throws her whole family and friend into a weeping fit. Kaoru also goes on a date with Kouji, wears a skirt and kisses him but we don’t see jack.

On the night of the concert Kaoru goes into another coughing fit. Kudou sees this and asks Kouji if this is ok with him. He says yes and Kaoru also begged for the other guys not to call an ambulance. So right before it’s time for them to perform, they get on the platform that will raise them to the stage. Right then, Kaoru goes into another coughing fit, collapses…and dies in Kouji’s arms. Kouji gives a lamenting speech about not crying. I honestly thought they were gonna like give her emergency surgery and have her live but no…she just DIED saying “The sun must hate me or something.”

Kudou asks Kouji’s permission to sell Kaoru’s single and also asks Kouji to come be a guitarist in his studio. Kouji agrees to both…gee I thought he’d be all emo and be like “NO I QUIT MUSIC FOREVER!” or something. So yea I guess that was an unexpected twist. The end shows him imagining playing his guitar on the beach with Kaoru singing next to him. In reality he’s actually watching a video of Kaoru singing when they did that battle of the bands. The end.

Final Impressions: Um okay. I really really liked this drama half way through, and I didn’t mind knowing that she was gonna die but I really think the direction of the final episode went down the toilet. I also thought the acting of the frustrated parents in the first few min was retarded. Acting in general seemed horribly fake. I’m not much to judge on acting, but it was just THAT BAD that it stood out to even me. :( Oh well maybe next time, Erika-chan.

    This drama was a complete dissapointment. (Well, not complete, but close) But you’re right, the ending was terrible and I lost most interest in the series after the third episode due to the “quality” acting. I followed the drama in hopes that it would improve. Also, they could’ve at least added another episode to give it a decent ending. I’m hoping Erika will pick a better drama because she was great in 1 Litre. (Hopefully, one that doesnt involve her dying, because thay would make her immortal)

    Yea I know like poor girl she will soon be known as “that chick who always dies” :lol: I actually like got all moved and cried in 1 litre, but this one just..meh.

    Ahh…I’m glad I didn’t watch this. I knew from the start that it might end up like that. Japan has too many dramas dealing with sickness, and it’s always the girl that has the illness (Summer Snow, Life is Beautiful, etc).

    some sickness dramas can be cool if they have a good ending but this was like SMACK THE END ^^;

    Yeah, this one just ended way too abruptly. The movie ending is done much better. This is like the opposite of Sekachuu. The movie is better than the drama. Yeah, better luck next time, Erika, and don’t die you pretty thing!

    Hm I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on the movie somewhere XD

  7. [...] Girl power!! So yea Kaoru dies. Nadeshiko flips her lid, and Sekidousai is actually that mage dude in disguise. Before dying in her arms (what’s with people dying in people’s arms this week?) he said he always wanted to be like Keita, but in the flashback we saw Keita was like this 8 year old kid who kept jumping on teenage girls like a dog who hasn’t been neutered. He says “I love you Nadeshiko” aww how sweet, then he evaporates into dust and Nadeshiko screams. The other Inukami try to fight this guy but he’s like uber powerful and he summons a bunch of backstabbing undead ghosts!! Nadeshiko decides she is going to summon her true power, with a risk to her life because she has nothing left. [...]

    Oh a pity Kaoru died but I agree in some par with you… It was a complete clichè…~;-;
    do you know if this was based on some novel, manga etc?

    gah,

    that sounds awful… i actually enjoy watching sickness dramas for some reason (like sekai no chuushin de) but then when i was watching the episodes of this one it felt like the developement of the series was getting weird. we were dealing with too many elements i think. you were dealing with too many stories it kind of lost focus and since japanese dramas are short everything had to be done in the last episode. the series barely even made me cry. what is the point of watching a drama about someone you know that is dying but is unable to make you cry. i dont credit it to poor acting though i think the acting was mediocre but really poor directing. and probably the story writer as well wanting to put as many elements into the story as possible.

    I watched the “Taiyou no Uta” movie, because I just didn’t have the pacience to watch 10 or something hours of a drama about this. The movie SUCKED. I mean… there’s seriously nothing good about it. I guess the drama must be a bit better… but still.. doesn’t appeal to me.

    I knew she was gonna die… It was just like Full Moon wo Sagashite about the surgery and stuff. xD

    Hmmm. I couldn’t actually watch past episode 6 of this drama. I skimmed through the rest of the episodes to see what happened and it disappointed me dearly. That’s sad too because I have some sort of soft spot for Yamada Takayuki. Dear god I couldn’t listen to the same songs over and over again it was driving me nuts.

    I didn’t find 1 litre of tears to be all that much better either. It dragged on a bit too much for my liking but it still made me cry. Fuck I cry all the time when watching drama’s though so it isn’t that big of a deal.

    sekai no chuushin de was a pretty well done sickly drama i think but I hated the female actress.

    I liked 1 litre of tears but yea this did get a bit draggy - plus yea the song totally sucks ><
