Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni - 23

Published by Hinano at 7:50 pm under Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni

Go Rena! Go Rena! Go! Rena discovers her dad’s stash of money and checkbooks and when she looks through them, she sees that he’s been spending thousands of yen on the whore. She gets angry and comes to school all depressed telling Keiichi that he should stop complaining about it being “so peaceful”. On her way home, she notices Rina is home and says she wants to have a “conversation” with the 3 of them. Rena doesn’t want to have anything to do with her so she runs off saying she’s gonna go look for treasure. Rina follows her there and they go down deep enough that no one can hear them. There, Rena says that she won’t forgive Rina if she divorces her dad. Rina isn’t sure how much she knows but Rena can’t hold in it in and she spits out how she knows about Rina’s using her father.

Rina upon hearing this calls Rena a bitch and slaps her to the ground and begins choking her. After Rena foams at the mouth, she grabs the neares sharp object (a piece of broken glass) and stabs Rina accross the stomach. While Rina is crouching and holding her bleeding abdomen, Rena grabs what looks like a lead pipe and beats Rina to death screaming “DIE! DIE!” After Rina dies, Rena drags her dead body and shuts it in an empty fridge in the dump pile.

While walking home Rena notices Satoko’s uncle beating up her dad and yelling at him because Rina has disappeared. Angry, Rena waits for the uncle to leave and then approaches him with a flashlight in the forest. She tells him that she saw Rina and Rina had asked to lead him to her because she had something important to tell him. The guy doesn’t know why but he follows Rena to the dump pile. Rena acts like her flashlight goes out and the man says Oh its ok i got a lighter, but soon as he turns it on, we see Rena behind him and she slices his head with her infamous butcher cleaver thing.

The next day after school Rena says she can’t play games with them because she has stuff to do. Her “stuff” involves slicing up the bodies and pudding them into trashbags. Keiichi comes up with a brilliant idea to “surprise” Rena by finding “treasure” for her in that dump pile. Of course when they get there they find her putting away the sliced body parts in the bags. Keiichi starts crying and babbling about how she should have confided in them but she tells him that even if she did, it’s not as if they would have been able to do anything.

Keiichi tells her that as friends they will accept her, even if she’s a murderer. Keiichi tells Rena that she’s been crying but she claims she has no tears in her eyes, but he is referring to her heart. Keiichi jumps on top of the bus that she’s standing on and tells her to “come back it’s not too late” (this is really cheesy). The other girls jump up and put their hands in the center and Rena stares but eventually Keiichi grabs her hand and puts it in with the others, causing her to cry.

We now see the day of the Watanagashi Festival and Rena seems to be back to normal and they all happily go inside. However, we see someone drop a cigarette on the ground and put it out with their shoe..and that someone is Oiishi with an evil smirk on his face. I knew that guy had something up his sleeve…

Upcoming Attractions: Rena probably gets caught and Oiishi grills her.

Not fair! Episode 22 has yet to be fansubbed. This looks like a really fun episode. Satoko’s uncle’s head being sliced off = win. When Rena and her friends put their hands together in a circle, was Satoko there?

This answer arc is kind of like a prequel to the first question arc. The thing is, Keiichi had no idea about the murders until the camera guy mentioned dead bodies. :\

The things that happen in this arc don’t happen in the first so it’s in no way a prequel. It’s a completely different series of events that will answer questions about the first arc and possbily raise its own questions. The murder of Rina and Teppei didn’t happen in the 1st arc and K1 didn’t know about the murders so he was surprised.

Lydia: Yes Satoko was there, which I thought was really ODD

Chirium: Thats why I’m confused on how this arc is related to the rest but I guess we’ll see n_n

I stopped watching this after the episode where everyone dies except keiichi (episode 11 or 12?). I guess I should pick this back up since you’ve been saying it got better in podcast and in blogs etc. Is it really better?

These kids probably have the highest strength to mass ratio ever. A cleaver is freaking heavy to swing about even with two hands.

  8. Hinanoon 06 Sep 2006 at 7:13 am

Retsgip: I think it got better soon as the answer arcs started :)
helspectre: True but I mean look @ Satoko and the way she like totally pushed Keiichi flying accross the room in that one episode XD

    Wow. Rena’s awesome…(and cute)

But it still puzzles me regarding the origins of the giant cleaver cause I doubt anyone would throw it away to the dump site, or would they? (I know I wouldn’t.)

Well, this episode pretty much confirms the fact that she might be the leader of the villages who initiated the first murder from the scene where she chops up the bodies.

And apparently, gravity works both ways in this anime.

OMG…i just realised something. Rina has that red star on her body (close to her gential region), the same red star that’s found on the dead Satoshi. I have a strong hunch that this is an indication of the curse of Oyashiro sama since both of them got killed eventually.

  11. Yyion 06 Sep 2006 at 10:42 am

When Rena told her friends that everyone wasn’t able to do anything about her parents, she was obviously wrong (from all the past higurashi episodes). Of course, the outcome would have been the same.

Oh…and it must’ve probably been Keiichi’s GREAT idea to dump the body parts in the woods. (From the 3rd Question arc) The chances of them being found out is probably much higher than if Rena had just kept them inside the fridge.

P.S: Sorry for my fragmented long-winded comments. I should’ve watched the entire episode before i posted.

Yyi: I think they drop everything & their grandma into that dump site lol. Hell I threw a knife in the trash before cause it was all dull and shitty haha.

I didn’t see that star on Rina until Rena beat her to death so I’m not sure what that’s supposed to mean….

Lol yea Keiichi and his brilliant ideas of dumping bodies in the most DISCOVERABLE PLACE EVAH xD

No, see at the beginning of Tatarigoroshi-hen it wasn’t Satoshi’s body in the bag, it was Rina’s. The question now is why was she killed…

  14. Hinanoon 07 Sep 2006 at 7:24 am

How can it be Rina’s when the body
    a) had blonde hair
    b) har the star on its CHEST
    c) had no boobs
    d) was actually WHOLE, she chopped up everyone’s body parts and put them in separate bags rememeber?

she was killed because Rena killed her in self defense.

    Game SPOILERS

The game TIPS from Tatarigoroshi-hen establish that the body in the bag is Rina’s and that the motive of her murder was most likely money swindling from the Sonozaki’s.

    End game SPOILERS

Now, if you want to disregard what the game gives you and just go with the anime (or remember that TIPS may not be absolutely true), then you could theoretically believe that the body was Satoshi’s. However, if so, then the question would be: why didn’t anyone find out that Satoshi’s body was found? Considering Satoshi is one of the mysterious people to have disappeared during Watanagashi a year ago, wouldn’t it make sense that this news got out to show that there is no curse? You may think that Oishi is a bad guy, but do you think he has enough power to hide news like this? Makes you wonder.

  16. Hinanoon 07 Sep 2006 at 5:02 pm

Fubared: true but I hear the anime is no longer in proper consistence with the game so nothing freaking makes sense anymore :P

  17. FubaredByAnimeon 07 Sep 2006 at 7:02 pm

I’ve heard that the major problem isn’t that the game isn’t consistent, but leaves too many details out to allow the watcher to figure out what’s going on. Without more info from the game, like the TIPS and the death lists at the end of some arcs, we can only grasp the situations with our own assumptions which can be wrong. But for the most part, the anime is fairly consistent with the events that occur in the game.

Personally, I think they should have just made 4 arcs instead of 6 for the season. I’m sure it would have been popular enough to warrant another season. Oh well.

    ARGH

Left is right, right is wrong, the series does not follow the game MY BRAIN IS ON FIRE.

Yay more Rena killing, man I have been waiting for this along time.
