One year is _way_ too old, get the newest version from cccp-project.net and install it. This will allow you to use even x264-avis in vdub/vdubmod. CCCP comes with proconfigured MPC and ZP. You don't HAVE to use them, but they're easier to use (the original media player cannot handle multi-audio releases properly).

wrex> She just seems like the typical damsel in distress. Like I know she "tried to save saito" but I mean i've seen these damsels "try to save to no avail" and the main hero saves them anyway cause their efforts to be brave are useless. I know that she can't do jack in front of that guy either, but it's just the "role" they put her in. Like for a taste of something "different" i thought maybe she'd try to like escape from a window or somethingXD

Mentar> I have the CCCP but not sure how "latest" it is. I last installed it almost a year ago so perhaps I should check for an update. I only use windows media player and I really would rather not install anymore "players" to use. (Hence why I just chose the alternative way of downloading another version of the episode.)

Oh, and if you do insist on making screenshots in vdub/vdubmod, you need to install ffdshow with the VFW-component enabled (for example by installing the _latest_ CCCP release), or you can just load the file in an avisynth wrapper (only one line: Avisource("File.avi") saved to "wrapper.avs", then load it. Assuming avisynth installed)

The codec has absolutely NOTHING to do with the ability to take screenshots.

Simply change your renderer in the player from "Overlay" to "VRM7" or "VRM9" temporarily and use the screenshot feature of the player.

Have you tried VLC?

Anyway, I don't think this maid is helpless. Yes, she's helpless before a magic-using aristocrat, but then again, so are most commoners except for Saito. And she intervened to save Saito the first time he insulted the Count.

Actually it wasn't. In fact had it been one, I probably would have been able to get the screencaps. It was a regular avi file encoded with that stupid X264 or whatever codec and neither vdub or vdub mod could read it.
