Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - 16

Published by Hinano at 9:01 pm under Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni

Shion’s wrath! Shion dragging an unconscious Mion to her final doom Wow there’s a reason why this is called the answer arc…cause it just answered about 10 of my questions. The arc itself is basically like the stuff that happened probably right before Keiichi transfers to Hanamizawa because the arc contains a still living Satoshi. It also takes place exactly 3 years after the whole issue with the damn protests. Although in a sense it makes no sense because technically everyone in Hinamizawa shoulda died from the gas? Anyways onto the questions & answers!

1. Did Mion & Shion switch identities?
Yes! In fact they did. Shion developed a rabid crush on Satoshi (and I mean rabid…read on) so she kept asking Mion if she could switch places with her just so she could see him.
Oh Satoshi! You're petting too high!

2. Was Shion the one “behind it all” ?
Yes! Based on the start of this episode, she has a tazer that she obviously uses to make everone unconscious then eventually tie them up. Based on her getting attacked by thugs in this episode, she obviously only uses that as her weapon (as opposed to brute strength) and that’s how she pretty much got everyone tied up/nailed/stabbed/gutted yea.

3. Is Rena indeed involved in this?
Well seems like she is going to be since she told Shion a long story of the whole prophecy and curse of the Hyoujo family. Rena also said that Satoshi was punished by Oyashiro-sama for trying to run away. Okay…so he ran away and came back, THEN got killed?
There's those eyes again

4. Is Shion a crazy jealous bitch and that is one of her reasoning to kill ppl?
YES! In fact, during this episode she goes to school diguised as Mion, and then gets angry at Satoko for constantly making Satoshi look after her because she constantly gets picked on. She goes as far as throwing Satoko against lockers, and proceeds throwing books and notebooks at her, and eventually almost smashes a chair on top of her until Rika and Rena, and Satoshi (who in turn smashes Shion against the lockers) stop her. Boy these kids are strong. Remember how Satoko wacked Keiichi accross the room?

Smash hit! Die you bitch!

At the end of the episode Shion is on the phone with Mion and she says that “it’d be great if Satoko and that old bag (the old woman from himatsubushi arc who ran that anti-dam meeting) would just die.”

Some further notes to consider:
● Shion escaped from a Catholic school, and you know how crazy those catholic school girls are.
● Shion and Mion were born as identical twins, but only ONE can run the “household”. The tradition was that the other baby would be killed. In fact they did a short flashback that showed Mion wrapped in blankets, and Shion naked surrounded by blood with that old hag looking like she was about to choke her.
●Satoshi was on the baseball team but he quit so he could spend more time watching over Satoko.
● In this arc, Shion admits to Rena that she likes Satoshi, however Rena I don’t think is aware that the person she is talking to is Shion, not Mion. This brings up the fact that in Watanagashi arc, wasn’t it MION who had a crush on Keiichi? Hence the whole jealousy thing was like a reversal of this? So perhaps….Mion really was the one “whodunnit”? It makes it confusing because of all the arc resets really.
● According to a few sites, Mion & Shion have the same seiyuu, but you can usually tell the difference between Shion & Mion’s talking but…when Shion gets angry she stops talking politely and tells it like it is…which is what makes it confusing.

Whew well that was a big loader for me but definitely an episode worth watching. Upcoming Attractions: Shion opens up a can of torturous woopass.

o.0? You meant this happens 3 years after the incident? And I thought it was 3 years before Keichi appeared since Satashi is around. =P

    lol hels XD;;
bj0rn> I’m confused as hell really. When Shion came to Hanamizawa, she was told how “3 years earlier to the damn protests Satoshi’s parents were killed blah blah blah” and then I remember from the Himatsubushi arc that when Akasaka came back he was like “3 years later..” The whole 3 years thing keeps confusing me haha. I dunno how long it was before Keiichi came. I thought Keiichi came like 1 year after Satoshi died? *is confusing myself again* :?

Ok~ After rewatching EVERYTHING for 3 times. So let’s go through with the 1st four arc…

I kinna get the picture now. In the Time Wasting arc, they show this guy who came to town, and how Rika predicted the deaths and all. He came back 3 years later, where by everyone is dead by now and realised the Rika did predicted it right.

The 1st arc, the Hidden Demon chapter, it’s kinna clear so I need not say anymore. As for the 2nd arc, the Floating Cotton arc, we know that Mion likes Keiichi. However if she likes Satoshi in the past or not, I’m really not too sure. But what ponders me is why she started cursing Satoko and said she was cursed while trying to shake Keiichi off the ladder. In the 3rd arc, the Cursed Murder chapter, we can see that Shion is the one who liked Satoshi since she got mad when Keiichi said he got transfered.

As for what u’ve mentioned. Hmm..

For the time line it should be…

1st year - The director of the dam project
2nd year - Satoko’s parents fell off the cliff
3rd year - Satoko’s aunt dies, Satoshi missing.
4rd year - Keichi arrives. And either one of the following:
4.1 - Keiichi claws his own throat after killing Rena and Mion
4.2 - Satoko, Rika dies. Shion sucided. Keiichi still got owned in the end. Not to forget the death of 2 other characters, Tomitake and Takano.
4.3 - Oishi goes missing, Irie dies of overdose of sleeping pills. Takano dies the same way as always, being burnt to death. In the end, Rika was found dead, as she had predicted in the Time Wasting arc. Keiichi fell off a bridge, and next, everyone dies due to the gas explosion.

Hope I got it right. Akasaka appeared at the time BEFORE the director died. And returned AFTER the gas explosion BUT on the same year. Wonder if that clears things up.

Hinano, if you would, perhaps we could exchange contacts or something. Would like to talk on Skype or something to discuss this. =)

    LOL hmm interesting conclusion.
I usually stop by the animenano irc channel so if you wanna find me there we can always talk :D (Im like never on SKYPE except when Hung asks me to do the podcast.)

Regarding your timeline it works except 4.1 & 4.3 don’t make sense. You said Keiichi clawed out his throat, died…then dies again off a bridge? he’s got 9 lives? XD;; And in tatarigorosh Keiichi didn’t die, he was the sole survivor if I recall..

I bet by the end of the series we’ll know anyway, as these are the answer arcs and they really do seem to answer everthing. The arc after Meakashi-hen is gonna be like Onikakushi but from Rena’s POV so that should clear some things up.

LoL! Sorry for not making it clear…after the 3rd year. EITHER ONE of the following takes place. LoL! Yes. In 4.1 he killed Rena and Mion and clawed his own throat while confessing to Oishi. As for 4.3, I forgotten to mention that he survived.

    > 2. Was Shion the one “behind it all” ? Yes! Based on the start of this episode, she has a tazer that she obviously uses to make everone unconscious then eventually tie them up.

I can’t really agree at this point of the arc.

Let’s remember there was a scene in Watanagashi-hen (”Shion” bringing bento to Keiichi) and Shion later doesn’t know what Keiichi is talking about. It’s entirely possible at this point that it is in fact part of the whole switcharoo deal, and it is MION dragging SHION for the finale we have seen in Watanagashi (Demon Mion imprisoning Shion and playing with Keiichi and).

Of course the scene might be totally in your face, and I’m just overanalyzing…

    > Rena also said that Satoshi was punished by Oyashiro-sama for trying to run away. Okay…so he ran away and came back, THEN got killed?

Did he runaway already? Thought she was talking about Oyashiro-sama not liking him thinking about running away. Then again, might be WinDs fansubs.

  11. Hinano UNITED STATESon 25 Jul 2006 at 4:55 pm

Wow that was like last week ^^; I forgot really.
The thing with the bento though, I thought that was Mion dressed up as Shion?

  12. kacpy POLANDon 25 Jul 2006 at 5:09 pm

    Exactly!

Which is why it’s still absolutely possible for the opening sequence to this episode to be Mion dragging Shion. :P

  13. kacpy POLANDon 25 Jul 2006 at 5:11 pm

Unless I completely misunderstood the point of your second question/answer. >_

  14. Hinano UNITED STATESon 25 Jul 2006 at 5:55 pm

No no you didn’t misunderstand it
But I thought it was Shion because of the eletric thingy, and Shion had that when the thugs tried to attack her

  15. Clint UNITED STATESon 27 Jul 2006 at 12:13 pm

The timeline there is missing Rika’s parents who died in the third year after Akasaka’s first visit. Satoko’s anut dying and Satoshi going missing happened in the fourth year.

    >LoL! Sorry for not making it clear…after the 3rd year. EITHER ONE of the following takes place.

That’s true for the first three arcs, however, each arc is different and seperate from the others. There’s at least 8 different worlds in Higurashi and probably dozens more. Some may be very similar to others and some may be greatly different to others. So the “either one of the following takes place” can have over 40 outcomes.

  16. Hinano UNITED STATESon 27 Jul 2006 at 4:59 pm

Whats annoying is the anime seems like it wants to cover EVERYTHING so some parts “go together” but others just make no sense (i.e. keiichi going batshit in the first arc and then being all nice in the tatari one)
