Princess Princess D - 01

Published by Hinano at 8:13 pm under Princess Princess, ■Drama/Live Action■

キタ━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━ッ!! Pardon me for sounding like a 2ch otaku but I had no idea this was coming and considering I only blogged the last episode of the anime I feel like I’ve been given another chance! 8)

Hello boys~ Okay so basically the story is the same. You know the deal, femmy guys get bribed to dress like chicks and cheer on the male student body and getting paid for it. There’s a few things different here from the anime. I never read the manga so I’m not sure if this is what the manga was like but the POV this time is not from Tohru but from Mikoto. The drama therefore doesn’t begin with Tohru transferring to the school it begins with Mikoto running away (as usual) because he hates doing the Hime job.

Mikoto's failed suicide attempt. Apparently it’s “itsumo no koto” (the usual thing) for Mikoto to run away screaming that he hates this job and trying to kill himself, failing to do so. (Who locks themselves in a closet to commit suicide anyway?) The rest is the same. As far as characters, I think the most fitting ones are Mikoto, Arisada-taichou and Kaoru (the crazy guy with the curly hair). The Akira guy is so-so, but I really don’t feel that Yuujiro and Tohru are in character. Maybe because I’m used to the anime or maybe because of the strange start of the drama they just don’t stand out to me. Yuujiro had this snobby attitude that we all knew and loved in the anime but here he’s kinda passive, while the Tohru here seems to be more agressive, more than he was in the anime. I’ve created a little table here comparing the actors to their anime personas:

Who fits best? You decide!

The series is very very much based on gags. It’s just damn funny to watch even if you don’t know anything about Princess Princess, though be warned, there was a short segment of 2 boys almost kissing in the opening credits, as this is supposedly a shounen-ai series. (I’ve never seen a Shounen-ai drama…this is exciting!)

Duh, the actors didn’t dye their hair with rainbow’s colors, that’s disappointing…

This is actually first shounen ai live action drama for me too, one more thing to take from ‘to do in lifetime’-list. =)

only the dress making fanatic fits the best..

other live action character dont seem fit enough, i guess coz real guys r ugly.

I better off with the anime/ manga version than the ugly Live action

What i think of the stupid Live action characters.

Mikoto - ugly, and he dont have the great looks that will get her a beautiful girlfriend. He looks like the quiet type.

yuujirou - he should smile more…

tohru - look violent, aggressive and evil badass unlike the nice kind tohru in the anime

akira - he does look timid just like the real akira anime but akira is the first year, and he dont look younger than the rest of the actors.

arisada - which part of his damm face look like a charisma leader

I guess I mostly based my comparisons to the actual acting.
As far as looks yes only Kaoru “looks” like his character but if you actually watch the drama (i’m not sure that you have) the “acting” is what I compared it too and Mikoto actually pulled it off pretty well. Arisada may not look exactly like his anime persona, but his voice and manner really fits the character.

I decided to give this a try after watching the anime and reading (some) of the manga. Unfortunately, I really didn’t get any of the gags and felt the whole thing came off a bit awkward.
I’d agree that Arisada was great though! And Mikoto is NOT ugly, at least in my opinion.

Probably give this another episode or two, just to see where it goes.

The awkwardness is the random dancing courtesy of Akira (I didnt get the point of him reciting the bible either?) and the fact that the guys don’t really look “pretty” dressed as girls like they did in the anime :P

where are these guys from, i have never seen them, and i know absolutly nothing about this show but it looks really fun. are some of the guys from the live action musical of prince of tennis cause when i saw them thats what i thought first o well ^__^

im not sure since i never saw that musical but i think some of them are in either a singing group (a non debut one) or theyre just actors? I really never heard of any of them before

I know three of them were part of the cast of The Imperial Match, the Hyoutei musical of prince of tennis. Kamakari Kenta (Mikoto) was Shishido (and did a great job impersonating him!) Saito Takumi was Oshitari Yuushi and Adachi Osamu was Kikumaru Eiji. I’m not sure if anyone else in this drama was or will be part of one of the prince of tennis musicals, but there must be.

rofl is that telling us that the prince of tennis really is BL?? I dunno how far I can stand watching this though ….as I am not a POT fan nor do I really know any of the actors but as a Princess Princess fan this is a bit….yea..

^I don’t think there is a soft sub/hard sub version as of yet.

I’m not really a big fan of “dreamy” kind of cinematography. (referring to the background/whole thing itself looking like it’s washed out.) I don’t know if it’s just the quality of my raws.. but to me, it gives a dull feeling to it. Hah, I also wished it was more lively, they’re in an all-boys school whose students go nuts just to see the “hime’s” afterall. I guess it can’t be helped since it is INDEED awkward to see them play shounen ai roles from a shounen ai manga/anime, and I doubt there are enough guys who got guts to play such characters (or are willing enough to even have an inclination to participate).
