Death to MKV!
Gah it’s the most demonic format ever created by stupid Russians known to man! (Yes I can make fun of Russians because I’m Russian and I think my uncle’s ‘genious’ ideas are idiotic too.) I mean what kind of name is “Matroska” anyway, it sounds like some stupid sailor nickname.
That aside, I couldn’t take any screencaps for Ouran High School Host Club episode 13 due to this spawn of satan format so instead I bring you:
A snippet from the manga chapter! This was actually in volume 4. I noticed the anime decided to incorporate characters like Haruhi’s mom, dad, Renge, Nekozawa and his sister. None of that was in the manga. The basic differences are the “evil queen” was Kyouya, and his little servant was Hani. Haruhi’s hair (in case you can’t tell) was short like it is normally not long like it used to be. The baby thing, was actually Mori who then grew UP rather than grow down. The bunny person was that little kid (he was a mouse in the anime.) In the end Kyouya attacks them with some kind of a dragon, and Haruhi uses her magical powers and summons a giant Cat puppet (Basically the thing that Nekozawa carries on his hand) to defeat it. Then Haruhi wakes up from under a tree, and her “mother” (which is actually Kyouya not her real mother) goes “Oh what a bad dream you had! Let’s go home!” Oh and all of this took place in like a “forest wonderland” not Ouran Koukou.

BSplayer plays mkv just fine for me. (FYI I use BSPlayer to watch vids, CCCP for codecs) It’s super easy to make screenshots with.
I usually watch stuff with windows media player, and it plays fine, but you know you try to screencap, you get a black screen? Does BSPlayer have a screenshot option or something? I usually use paint shop pro lol.
You just press “p” in BSPlayer while watching the video and it makes perfect screencaps every time. “c” pauses the Video, btw. options->General lets you set where the caps are saved, as well as setting a default naming style.
Hope that helps
oh wow sounds awesome, Ill be sure to check that out thanks
I would like to say that I used to despise MKV myself. I used to run all my videos through VLC media player and it handled MKVs horribly. But that all changed when I discovered Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP). Its a codec pack that handles every conceivable codec possible and its designed specifically for anime viewing. Now because of this great codec pack (which comes with two media players) I don’t ever have to worry about MKV problems again.
Sorry if this sounds like an ad/infomercial. I didn’t play on it to be but that’s how it turned out. If you have any other tech problems I would be glad to help.
haha
actually I have the community codec pack installed!
It’s awesome, a friend of mine told me about it a while ago the first time I ran into the MKV demon.
However I didn’t wanna have too many players which is why I stuck to plain ‘ol windows media player 6.1
Dude, wear a hat. And some body armor.
You’ll need it!
I have k-lite’s codec pack installed (cccp did some funny stuff last time I used it) and find that bsplayer will work with some mkv, but then not at all with others. Those that don’t work in bsplayer I have to go use Media Player Classic
But i prefer bsp simply coz I can specify what name it automatically spits the file out as, and I take an assload of screen shots.
Not to mention that groups have a larger tendancy to get weird with filesize concerning mkv it seems to me. I don’t mind when it’s under 170mb.. but when they start giving you 200mb one week, and then 240mb the next.. I dunno, just irritates me and my poor dsl.
MKV is my favourite format. I hate avi because it skips on my com. MKV is high quality, smooth and takes up less space. It only sucks for people who have slow computers or don’t know how to install codecs.
well like I said…
Playing mkvs is no problem for me
(they play just as fine as avis do o_o;)
Its really the screencap issue I had
I actually use virtual dub for all my screencaps and I couldn’t open any MKVs in vdub haha. But yea I’ll give that BSPlayer a shot
Try using the VirtualDub Mod instead, since i use that for screenshots as well
Use the K-lite Mega Codec pak and Media Player Classic. This one works for me
oh? Is that the new version? I think my vdub is like 2-3 years old (never bothered to upgrade since it pretty much did all I needed it to). I’m currently running on that community codec pack (installed it a while ago) i wonder if that + the vdubmod would work? I’ll try that as well thanks!
actually i hate mp4 files the most. they don’t play on QT for me, and almost certain needs MPC/VLC both of which i hate.
to take screen shots in Windows Media Player,
Open Window Media Player
Then go to Tools | Options
In Options, select the Performance Tab
Way below you click on the Advanced Button
Uncheck “Use Overlays’
after you do that, the print screen buttom should allow you to take good screenshots
I liked the manga verson alot better than the anime verison. Espeically the twins being alice(s) for a few pages X3
