Today we find out about Haruhi’s oh so tragic childhood of discovering that you are not special, and that eating breakfast and going to a baseball game can be done by everybody else.
 

Kyon discovers that everything was fine until he put that silly idea into Haruhi’s head in creating a club to make her life more exciting. Most of the episode is spent in a taxi with Itsuki explaining to Kyon about the whole world balance thing and Haruhi and the reason that because Haruhi “wished” for it, that’s why he got his magic powers, and that’s why Yuki and Mikuru appeared as an alien and a time traveller. He then brings Kyon to this “parallel 4th dimension” thing and shows him how it looks exactly like the real world but things that happen inside do not affect what happens on the outside…hence why when a monster appears bearing strange similarity to the 1st Angel from Evangelion, Itsuki uses his super magical powers (along with others like him) to kick its ass.

Most of the episode was an explanation episode about Haruhi and about the whole thing of her being like a “god” to this world since 3 years ago. I’m glad I read the novel before watching this because probably have I had not, this episode wouldn’t make any sense.
